On July 1, EDEN Center and EDMI held the kick-off meeting of the project "Empowering civil society activism and concrete contributions into the EU accession negotiation process in Albania", co-financially supported by the European Union, under the IPA 2017 program. The meeting was attended by key actors involved in advocating and implementing green and energy policies in the country, such as representatives of environmental CSOs, environmental experts, and representatives of the authorities.

The project “Empowering civil society activism and concrete contributions into the EU accession negotiation process in Albania“ (e-ACT) will run for 18 months, and its aim is to strengthen the watchdog role and partnership of CSOs to boost enforcement of energy recovery and green policies through direct ground monitoring and policy dialogue within the pre-accession frame. Three main pillars of the project that will enable the full implementation of the Action consist on:
• Establishment of a hosting environment for the civil society on engendering a constructive policy dialogue platform with the representatives of the government by bringing forth issues related to the actual progress and tools in place for environmental protection and climate change;
• Empower the watchdog role and partnership of CSOs on boosting enforcement of green and energy recovery policies through direct ground monitoring and policy dialogue within the pre-accession frame;
• Boost political attention and accountability to align principles of green policies and energy recovery of acquis into the country legal framework.

During the kick-off meeting, the joint project team (EDEN Center and EDMI) presented the aim, scope and the methodology of the project, which was followed by an interactive session with project target-groups, mainly representatives of environmental CSOs in order to identify the needs and interests of these groups to be addressed throughout the project implementation.
In the first part of this session, the concept-idea of the interactive platform was introduced, with a particular focus on the content, functionality, sections and topics that will be covered on the platform. While, in the second part of this session, representatives of environmental CSOs and other stakeholders invited, identified the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT analysis) that CSOs have in their internal structures and face in their advocacy work with green and energy policies.

We thank the participants involved in the kick-off meeting of the project "e-ACT", and we invite you to keep an eye out (vigilante) for the following engaging and capacity-building activities project activities, which will provide engaging opportunities and capacity-building for CSO actors.
